Family Support
What is it?
An advice, advocacy and information service for family members and carers of people with an acquired brain injury (ABI). Either the family member or the person with the brain injury must live within Headway East London’s catchment area (Barking and Dagenham; Camden; Enfield; Hackney; Haringey; Havering, Islington; Kensington and Chelsea; Newham; Redbridge; The City; Tower Hamlets; Waltham Forest and Westminster).
A Family Support Co-ordinator can offer emotional support as well as advice and advocacy regarding benefits, care packages, direct payments, social/vocational activities, housing, rehabilitation opportunities and signposting to other services. There are also regular peer support meetings and information events for family members and carers.
Support can be offered over the telephone, by email, or in person at Headway East London. We can also organise home visits or arrange to meet at another convenient place in the community, for example, at a café or community centre.
There is no set time frame for how long we will work with a family member or carer. The length of time will depend on what is happening in the person’s life and what sort of support they need.
