Discovery Programme
What is it?
A person-centred occupational programme for those with acquired brain injury (ABI), living within Headway East London’s catchment area, tailored to the needs, aspirations and talents of the individual. (Click on image below to visit the Discovery Programme blog).
Suitable candidates with ABI will be recruited as project leaders, and given support to set up and develop community projects that create opportunities for other. These project leaders must be able to take responsibility for the development and running of their project, and so must be good at self-starting, organising and other leadership skills. At the later stages, the projects will create roles for additional people with ABI for whom project leading may not be possible.
The projects will be community-based and set up to address existing social problems, as well as those of people with ABI including engagement, social networking, learning, advocacy and community building.
The project leader will work closely with the programme manager and as part of a small team of other leaders. The programme will support people with the process of exploring their strengths and weaknesses and developing strategies to manage fatigue and other impairments. Leaders will be supported to work at a pace that ensures success and to avoid over-load.
