Tirzah phoned Eric, Stall Manager at Spitalfields Market, to enquire about Headway getting a stall. Sandra Ma followed this up and made a deal to get a free stall as often as every month if we wanted.

OUR TRIP TO SPITALFIELDS

We left Headway East London on Friday 22nd May for a visit to meet Eric who is the Manager of the stall areas. He is a pleasant man who showed us around and told us something about the history of the market, which was very interesting.

It was a bright sunny day and there were a lot of people with stalls which included arts & crafts, vintage wear, jewellery and a variety of cuisines. While having our lunch Brian suggested that the stall could be called Headway Boutique. After lunch in the picnic area we headed back to Headway on the 67 bus: Dolores, Brian, Simone, Michelle and Sandra.

While we were at the market, Mark was working on the flyer to publicise the Headway handicraft stall while Kara helped to finish the flyer with her artistic touch.

Wednesday 27th May 2009

Today, Jimmy and Sandra worked on flower pins for the stall while Monty was working in the IT room, drawing up an action sheet.

Errol has been working on a poster to publicise the event. The Friday discussion group reviewed and updated the action sheets. They also did a rota for the stalls and Keith and Avy agreed to make labels for the items to be sold and also made a price list.

Wednesday 10th June

Errol finished his poster. We did decide to use a stamp on the packaging instead of the stickers but I came up with an idea that we should not put prices on items for sale - “It gets people talking and then we have no chance of blagging and bartering up to a good price.”

Friday 12th June 2009

Terry, Brian H, Keith, Michelle and Brian S went out to buy product packaging.’ We finalised the rota for the day. Products are still being made. A Headway banner has arrived. Timebanking are joining us on the day.

Tuesday 16th June 2009

Today Visar laminated the photographs of members to hang on the stall.

Mosaic mirrors were grouted and mounted by Brian who is a volunteer. Price tags were written by Lina and Simon and attached to beads by Ben. Sam and Tony  arranged the cards for the stall. Brian (volunteer) continues to work on products/preparations work for the stall.

ON THE DAY AT SPITALFIELDS MARKET

Keith and Dolores met at Headway at 9.30am to leave early as they volunteered to set up the stall. When they arrived, Michelle, Matt and Adrian were already taking the products out of the boxes. We then all helped to put the new banner up and our stall was all set up and looked a picture to behold. We then had many people having a look and actually buying products.
