Twelve aspiring Occupational Therapy students from South Bank University visited Headway East London to learn more about brain injury from the ‘real experts’ – brain injury survivors themselves.
The students spent the day listening to the member’s experience of brain injury and engaged in discussion groups and general activities.
Occupational Therapy uses the everyday activities that people are interested in doing such as making a cup of tea or sandwich, washing/showering to getting dressed in clothing.
The aim of occupational therapy is to enable individuals to achieve satisfaction, fulfilment, leisure and self-care. Occupational therapists work in a wide range of settings to help people with acquired brain injuries or other physical disabilities to overcome the challenges that they may face.
Occupations Therapy Students said ‘visiting Headway East London and hearing people’s stories was an engaging, valuable and inspiring experience and we would recommend it to anyone.’
