Trekking the Himalayas for Headway

Jane Heath, Operations Manager of Enable Care recently completed a trek across the Himalayas and raised over £6k for four Charities including Headway East London.

Jane raised funds for Headway UK, Headway North London, Headway East London and Headway Guildford. These four branches of Headway work directly with brain injury survivors, their families and carers.

The trek took place in the Himalayan Annapurnas which is home to some of the highest peaks in the world. The summit of Annapurna rises to 8091m.

The challenge took Jane from the frenetic, fascinating city of Kathmandu through mountainside villages and thick forest.

Jane trekked for 11 days in total, 6 of which were trekking in continuous rain and involved camping in sub-zero temperatures. Added to this Jane could not wash for 6 days and the toilet was a hole dug in the ground with a small tent around it.

Despite the lack of luxuries and the sheer exhaustion Jane still managed to keep a smiling face on what she describes as a brilliant trip.

Jane Heath, Operations Manager of Enable Care said: ‘Working for Enable Care I work with people who have an acquired brain injury. When I visited Headway East London for the first time and saw their amazing rehabilitation facilities, I wanted to do something to help. I decided to do something entirely out of my comfort zone and signed up for the trek in the Himalayas. Now I’m back and have successfully completed it, I can say it was a truly fabulous experience and thanks to lots of generous people I have raised £6,000 for Headway of which £1,500 will go directly to Headway East London’.
