What We Do
Mission Statement
‘To provide a better quality of life for people with an acquired brain injury, their families and carers’.
Aims
Headway East London runs a variety of services for people with acquired brain injuries and for other people who want to understand more about these kinds of injuries. The organisation runs a Headway house which acts as the hub for all the other services and is based at Bradbury House in Hackney. It also runs a family and carers’ network, a young person’s network and provides advice and advocacy by telephone and email. Importantly, Headway East London is not just a provider of professional services – it’s a community. Around a hundred and fifty people visit the Headway house on a weekly basis. Of these about a hundred have an acquired brain injury and about fifty do not. Twenty people are paid to be there and another forty come as volunteer helpers. The people at the Headway house support each other and work together to produce the services and maintain the community that makes those services possible. The organisation continues to grow and develop and get better at helping people to take up roles and responsibilities they can feel proud of.
