Headway East London

“I know everyone can't come to Headway because of limited resources but if you can get in you've had a right result - Brilliant!”

Martin, Member

“Headway - If this word was in the dictionary the meaning would fill up a whole book; the companionship of people who have walked a similar road.”

Peter, Member

“I like coming here because I get to meet people that have had the same injury and I can identify with them. Making friends and socialising with people makes you feel that you are not the only one with a brain injury.”

Mark, Member

“At Headway I get to mix with other people, have a good time and have the opportunity to help other people.”

Terry, Member

“Headway East London gives me a sense of acknowledging that there are people in the same position as myself; I am constantly gaining confidence as time goes by.”

Velma, Member

“If anyone will understand the issues you are going through, the people here will because they are going through it themselves.”

Eddie, Member

“Headway East London is an interesting place. So many different people brought together by a life-changing experience. I love the fact that there is a place for people with brain injuries to go; a place of support, advice and familiarity.”

Michelle, Volunteer.

“I get lonely sometimes and it's good to come to the Headway house to meet with people and talk to them. I learn a lot from the groups and from talking to other people with a brain injury.”

Abul, Member

“Headway East London is a place where I feel that I am part of something bigger; it's like a family.”

Brian, Member

How We Are Funded

Headway East London needs to raise funds to operate both the Headway House and the other services it provides, for example outreach services, family and carer support services and information services.

About 75% of the funding for the Headway House comes from either Social Services departments or Primary Care Trusts (NHS); we are aiming to increase this to 90% by April 2009. However, this funding does not cover all the additional therapy services that have recently been introduced.

This year we need to raise £170,000 for the Headway House and associated therapies and an additional £40,000 to fund our other services.

How Your Donation Can Help

Your donation will have a significant impact. If 100 people give £10/month we will raise £12,000. If each of those people is a UK taxpayer and signs a gift aid declaration, that amount increases to £15,360. This will fund our Music Therapy Service for a year.

Donations can go towards the general running costs of the Headway House or towards a specific therapy, for example physiotherapy.

A company might wish to make a more significant donation. £2,300 would pay for Yoga Therapy, one day/week, for one year and will help 10-12 people with a brain injury. £6,200 would pay for Craniosacral Therapy, one day/week, for one year and will help a further 10-12 people with a brain injury.

Charitable Trusts and Corporate Foundations are often able to help with larger grants which we could use to fund our Outreach and Family Support Services or to boost our core costs while we try and recover more of the Headway House costs from Social Services and Primary Care Trusts.

We are extremely grateful to all the Trusts, Foundations and Corporate funders that support us so generously and help make Headway East London a widely recognised model of excellence.
